Ingredients for Making Margherita Pizza

For the dough

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

1 tsp active dry yeast

1/2 cup warm water

1 tbsp olive oil

1/2 tsp salt

For the toppings

3 ripe tomatoes, thinly sliced

1/2 cup fresh mozzarella, sliced

Handful of fresh basil leaves

1 tsp extra virgin olive oil (for drizzling)

Salt and pepper to taste

How to Prepare the Dough

In a bowl, mix the yeast and warm water. After five minutes, it should appear fluffy. Add the olive oil, salt, and whole wheat flour and stir. Stir to form a dough. Cover with flour and knead for approximately five minutes, or until smooth. Press it down, cover, and place it in a warm location to double in size or rise again for another half hour.

Place a pizza stone or large baking sheet inside your oven and preheat it to 475°F (245°C).

.Shape the Dough - Once the dough has risen, roll it out to the thickness you wish for on a floured surface.. Except for the thin and crispy type; either way, it's just personal preference. Go with your preference!

Assemble the pizza -Top with slices of tomato, spread them out so that they appear on every slice. Top with mozzarella slices, salt and pepper. Working quickly, carefully slide pizza onto preheated stone or sheet.

Bake -Put the pizza in an oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until crust is golden brown and cheese is bubbling.

Finish with Basil - When removed from the oven, place fresh basil leaves and a hit of olive oil for some more flavor twist.

Serve - Cut to your preference and serve hot!
